This award, formerly named the IBPSA Award for Distinguished Practice, recognizes an individual, group or firm, who has made a significant contribution to the effective application and/or advancement of building performance simulation in practice. The award may be given for a unique or noteworthy use of simulation in practice; development of simulation software or supporting software that has had a significant impact on industry practice; or other contribution that has advanced building performance simulation in practice. The award consists of a plaque and $US500. Awarded biennially.

Godfried Augenbroe Award
This new award, in honour of the late Prof. Godfried Augenbroe, recognizes a recent outstanding PhD thesis on the topic of building performance simulation. Nominations for the Distinguished Achievement Award shall include a brief CV which gives the history of involvement with building performance simulation, publications etc., and a summary of the nominee’s specific contribution to the field of building performance simulation – e.g. in the development/ contribution to development of building performance simulation tools or in furthering knowledge in the field of application of building performance simulation, etc.

Nominations for the IBPSA Outstanding Young Contributor Award shall include a brief CV, which gives a summary of the individual’s contributions to the field of building performance simulation, their publications etc., and an assessment of the potential for future contributions arising from the individual.

Nominations for the Innovative Application Award shall be accompanied by a summary of the individual’s, group’s or firm’s contributions to the field of building performance simulation in practice and an assessment of the significance of these contributions.

Nominations for the Godfried Augenbroe Award shall be accompanied by the following items: the student’s name and affiliation and title of PhD thesis; a cover letter (no more than 2 pages); an extended summary of the thesis (up to 5 pages); the nomination letter from the supervisor/advisors on university letterhead and in PDF format; a video recording of no more than 10 minutes, in which the nominee presents the key content and contribution to knowledge of the thesis (shared in the form of a URL); and, access to the full PhD thesis (shared via a link or PDF file).

Nominations for 2025 awards must be made by an independent third party and submitted by February 28, 2025. We would like as many nominations as possible, so please contact the Chairs of the Awards and Fellows Committee, Liam O’Brien (liamobrien@cunet.carleton.ca) and Ji-Hyun (Jeannie) Kim (jihyun.kim@anl.gov), to discuss a possible nomination if required.
